Wind churned today informing me
Of subtle change going ’round
Not the usual leaf flurry
Dirt stirring
No, not that
But memories of the years
With you and me
And the Lucy kitty
Juxtaposed in our yard
Of wind

Where did you go man of my heart?
The big fence out back never shut you out
You shut yourself out
For better or worse?

Life is a puzzle of richer and poorer
Greener and leaner
High and low
And I, living the closest I can to the real
(And unreal on occasion)
Say to you, my man:

Check out the sky
Check out the sun
Check out the moon
Check out the ocean
Right now

And if observation brings you any closer to home,
The woman of your real heart and real soul and real life
Remains here
Just like the wind churns
